We are in the town of Pec pod Snezkou, right on the main artery, where the built-up area is at its densest. The plot lies close to the central part of town. It is wedged between the road and the bed of the Zeleny stream. A steep, densely wooded hill rises on the southern side. Beyond the stream, along the edge of the slope, runs a footpath. From here a beautiful view opens up into the valley. The plot is triangular in character.

The location means everything is close at hand. The KRNAP information centre stands just below the house, and a little further on are the town hall, the post office and the tourist information point, the nursery and primary school, the swimming pool and the relaxation park. A cycle route passes nearby; one way leads towards Snezka, the other towards the ski slopes and the reservoir in Bukove valley. The house stands inside the town, not on its edge.

It is precisely from the footpath above the stream that you can see what decided the house.

The built-up area is already loosening here, and the street is held not by a single line but by several edges. Respecting the street lines therefore played the most important role in siting the house — and the house does not merely respect them, it declares them in its form. The upper floor is slightly rotated in relation to the ground floor, each following a different line.

Shifting the volume tight to the boundary of the plot frees up a larger private garden at the rear. The setback then does two things at once: a sheltered entrance on the street side, a place for a terrace on the garden side. Otherwise the house makes no attempt to draw attention to itself, either in form or in material.

The ground floor and the attic storey differ in both function and material. The owners live below, their visitors above.

Entry is from the street side into a hall, where the route immediately divides: straight up the stairs, or on along the corridor into the private part of the house. The heart of the ground floor is the living room, where everything shared takes place — kitchen, dining table and sitting area in a single space opening south to the terrace and the garden. Adjoining it is the mistress of the house's own room, with a view into the quiet valley of the Zeleny stream.

The attic storey serves visitors. A shared kitchenette gives access to two separate rooms, each with its own bathroom and lavatory. In the highest parts of the roof, sleeping lofts are built in above them, reached by ladder.

Parking is moved to the south-western tip of the plot, where the triangle narrows and building is no longer possible.
